Roza Boyanova

I was born on March 6, 1953 in the village of Rabrovo, Koula District, where my father served as an army officer in the border troops. My childhood passed in the village of Khan Krum, 10 km away from the city of Shoumen, by two rivers – the Kamchiya and the Vrana. There I had my first contact with beautiful nature, authentic folklore and the world of fairy tales.

Later my family moved to the city of Shoumen, where I graduated from a vocational school of mechanics, and later from the Shoumen University “Konstantin Preslavski”. Shoumen is a small city, but it has ancient history and traditions of the Bulgarian national revival, and is close to the first Bulgarian capital cities Pliska and Veliki Preslav, as well as the Madara Horseman center.

I have worked in the field of culture and education. In 1979, I founded in Shoumen the Literary Studio “Little Bell” for creative work with children in the field of poetry. Even to the present day I dedicate a great part of my time and talent to working with gifted young ones.

Since 1989 I have been living with my family in the city of Burgas, where I founded the “Mythic Birds” Literary Studio and for 13 years now I have been a poetry instructor at the primary school “Michail Lakatnik”. I work full time as Deputy Editor in Chief of the paper for literature and arts “Avtograf” (Autograph).

I am a member of the Union of Bulgarian Writers. My poems have been published in the Bulgarian literary press and in foreign publications in French, English, Russian, Macedonian, Ukrainian and other languages. Currently my poetry books are being translated into Russian, English and Serbian.

I am the compiler and editor of 20 collections of works by children and young writers, with whom I have worked as an art-instructor for more than 25 years. The latest anthology is “Poetry from the Magic House” – a multilingual book (in 8 languages), edited by Lyubomir Levchev, which can be found in 10 world libraries, one of which is in Vienna.
