  • Roger Conner Jr // Nov 11, 2008 //

O.K., here goes, but some of these answers are honest to the point of being embarrassing!

    1. How would you describe yourself in three words? Reflective, romantic, cautious

    2. What is your favorite sentence? (This one is hard, I have so many I like!) “Made of something light as nothing, made of joy that matters too, how the little dreams we dream are all we can really do.” (I think that’s only one sentence? Either way I love it. It’s from a Patti Griffin song “Kite Song”)

    3. Do you have a favorite book, and if so, what is it? “Herzog” by Saul Bellow (It is about an aging professor who can’t get life and relationships right. “More Die of Heartache” also by Saul Bellow, and on similiar themes would be a runner up. I love that title! Maybe I secretly identify with the awkward bookish types!)

    4. Your favorite song? “Useless Desires” by Patti Griffin (she converts pain and lonliness into beauty like no songwriter in the business!)

    5. Your favorite movie?

A little known French movie “A Heart In Winter” with English subtitles. Heartbreaking but so honest about human emotions, and humans who can’t experience love/intimacy. So beautiful are the restuarant scenes where all the feeling comes out into the open)

    6. Is there a contemporary personality you particularly admire?

(This is a funny one) Warren Buffet, the billionaire investor. He talks like a blue collar guy although he is super rich, and seldom seems to get a call wrong on money and when he does he fixes it and makes even more on the deal! Still goes to work just like he had to!

    7. What is your favorite city?

Louisville KY, between 4th and 6th street, beautiful! Favorite neighborhood to live in would be the Clifton neighborhood, beautiful old homes and the Clifton Center, as sophisticated a neighborhood as any I have ever seen! <3

    8. Do you believe in love?

Absolutely. It is the heart of any great culture, and any truly humane individual.

    9. Do you believe in miracles?

Yes, great ones and small ones.

    10. Do you believe in intuition? Yes, I just wish I had listened to mine more often!

    11. Have you ever made a prediction that has come true?

Yes, I have predicted at least half of the scandels where I work before they

    happened! :-)

    12. What would you never forgive? I hate willful mean spiritedness, and being mean to or purposefully hurting the feelings of someone with a disability or a child is disgusting to me

    13. What is your strongest motivation to press onward?

It’s mostly male ego I guess, I just want to be “relevent” and do something that matters.

    14. What temptation would you never be able to resist?

I would never say never, but I have trouble resisting an intelligent woman if she likes me, and if one showed real interest I would probably give her all I had if she wanted to stay around (I know, that’s embarrassing, but it’s probably true!)

    15. Is there something that would make you say, “This is stronger than I”?

(This may sound odd) I have always had a fear of Fascism. The one time I could understand the idea of suicide is the person who could see Fascism destroying their nation with it’s hatred, and decided to end their life rather than live in such a situation. Living under that type of system for long would be almost unbearable. Some thinkers in the WWII period killed themselves rather than live in such conditions. I can understand that.

    16. What don’t you like about the country in which you live?

It’s bloodthirsty competitiveness. If you don’t win all the time, your a nobody. It is also very self centered and sees everything through an American lense.

    17. Would you want, even briefly, to be a member of the opposite sex?

Yes! I would love to know how the female gender thinks and what they really feel and want! Women are blindingly confusing and mysterious to me, and I am totally unable to attract their interest! I have so many female friends I adore, but so few, uh, well you know what I mean! Embarrassing again, but true…but I love to “hear” women, their songs, their words, their writing, I am something of a female junkie! (I had three sisters, no brothers, and almost all female cousins, so maybe I am used to their “sound”. I wouldn’t trade it for anything…:-)

    18. Where is mankind headed?

That’s a tough one. I am an optimist, but I worry about technology, with chips that always tell someone where you are and what you are doing, and testing of personality, blood, brain waves, etc, that will remove the humanity of humans, the differences between us that make us special. Will anyone be allowed to live an unpredictable artistic and unique life, with it’s wonder, as well as it’s shortcomings? Can anyone afford to miss one step in the new world, without fearing being cutoff from culture and companions? I think we can overcome the technology, but I worry. I do think more people will have a chance to be included in a humane life, I just don’t want us to have to give up too much of ourselves to get there.
