Evening & the hounds circle
The weary crew wearing lamped hardhats
unrolls their map like a scroll as their undaunted captain
assures We’ll be done by nightfall…
Slim as a matchstick one
seeker is lowered into a fault as the villagers gather
The old photographer steadies his camera & the whispers
grow frantic
Two tugs are felt on the gold
en rope coming from below followed by the heave-ho
of the hundred muscled arms
They lift the hero into the night her luminous lithe body
draped over his wrist
like moonlight
