Interview by Violeta Petkova with Dušan Marčeta
Dušan Marčeta: “Click by click, photography has become my obsession.”
How did you get interested in photography?
Well, quite by accident. Click by click, photography has become my obsession. One thing led to another.
People began to show interest in my photos and it gradually became my profession. At that time I worked as a sales manager at a local company that I left immediately when I realized that I can live decently from the photography and to doing what I love.
Why do you prefer wedding photography?
I would say that wedding photography is possibly the most difficult route, when it comes to professional photography, requiring a great deal of responsibility and commitment to customers. On the day anything can happen and a bunch of contingencies are needed with which a photographer must always be prepared.
We have a great deal of stress, nervousness, anticipation … and the photographer is there to balance it all, and that among those feeling the real insights that should be recorded and turn it on paper. I like to accept this challenge and show that I am able to catch those moments which the wedding couple would be proud of. I like to stand there that day and to watch happiness and joy. Every second in that day can be valuable and must not be left uncaught.
It is very easy to make a good photograph. You have a bunch of people just waiting to be caught in an interesting moment. You only need a good photographer’s eye to observe and record properly.
Finally, this type of photography brings together all the others. Studio, portrait, landscape, journalism, sometimes even macro photography… Every type of photographer can be found here.
If a wedding can connect two people and two souls, could you say that a similar connection exists between a photo and its creator?
Well yes, when I make a good photograph I am able to look at it all day, whenever I see the opportunity. Sometimes I get the impression that the photos dearer to me than to a young couple.
What is the brightest moment you have captured?
I would not single out any one; there have been so many of them. But if I must, I chose moments that I catch with my wife and new born daughter.
What are you more excited about – being close to the nature or to people? Why?
I would say that it is a combination of nature and people. I love to select the time of day when the nature is the most picturesque, at early morning or late afternoon. Then I enjoy it while I work.
What do you do in you free time apart photography?
I spend quality time with my family and closest friends and travel.
What equals to a wonderful picture – a smile, a kind word or a precious memory?
It is a moment when I am showing my clients the final result of our work. I like to watch their reactions to some photographs.
Does photography fulfils dreams or does it create new dreams?
New dreams, definitely!
