Vernissage: The Sucuri group artistic approach of the Mayan Calendar

Brazilian artistic approach of the Mayan Calendar - 16.8.2012

Location: Kabelwerk ARTspace, Gertrude-Wondrack-Platz 4, 1120 Wien (U-Bahn Linie U6 Tscherrtegasse)

“We of the Sucuri group have decided to work on a theme which has been keeping peoples’ curiosity, anxieties and fears on the rise: the widespread belief provoked by interpretations of the Mayan Calendar that the world will come to an end on December 21st, 2012.

We found the theme “Before the End of the World…” relevant, because the fear of the end of the world seems to rise proportionally to the rising of other widespread social fears, such as wars, natural events such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, global warming, and so forth. Instead of trying to develop a theory about this recurrent phenomenon, we decided that each of us would research, think and elaborate our own ideas and translate these ideas into a work of art…”
