Vanya Nikolaeva’s interview with the French photographer Philippe Sainte-Laudy

When the images speak louder than words…

What is the one thing a camera could never capture?

I believe that everything can be captured.

It depends mainly on the photographer. We are all more comfortable with certain topics.

For example, I do not know how to do portraits.

If the day had 25 hours, what would you use the one additional hour for?

It’s a lot and a little bit at the same time … I think I am not looking at my watch.

What are the advantages of color photography?

The picture is more vivid. But the colors don’t make the photo!

What is usually your first thought when you wake up?

I think of my work and everything I will be doing in the day.

What is the thing that you can watch (take photos of) over and over again, without getting bored?

Nature in general. The same places are so different with the seasons or times of day. It is a show, constantly renewed.

Do you prefer the temptation of the mountains or the calmness of the beach, and why?

I like both … The important thing is that it is not too crowded. I prefer quiet and solitude in order to do my photos.

How powerful is a photo on a person’s mind and emotions?

The power can be very strong. I think a picture can replace many words!

I wish that tomorrow is …

no worse than the day before.

If I were not a human being, I would be …

a tree or …why not?… a cloud…

A perfect day for me is …

a day spent with my wife and children. If possible, traveling and discovering the world!
