I woke up at 4am to a rather dark, hazy morning; my mind, disorientated and bleary from the early rise. Waking up at this hour is not something I do often, I don’t even remember the last time I woke up this early.

This is an exception, though. I’m in the middle of moving and today I am travelling a long distance by car to collect my things from my ex-house to bring back to my new apartment. There are better things to do, but I do not mind, after all, inspiration finds me when I travel.

And, in spite of the messy handwriting, there’s nothing quite like gazing out the window, pen and notepad in hand, and seeing the picturesque scenery that makes Bulgaria so desirable. So the four-hour journey will give me plenty of time for ideas to emerge. In this case, I am writing my first ever diary entry and I’m slightly concerned about the crooked writing. I hope I will be able to interpret it tomorrow.

After four hours, I am back in the village I used to live in. Nothing much has changed. The first visit is to my old neighbor’s home. In the kitchen, the heating is on and a Turkish serial is playing on the television. There, as you may well imagine, I drank alcohol in one form or another – this time it was homemade red wine.

Tasty and sweet, I drank four glasses which I later regretted when I became inflicted with a headache and a red stained mouth. I can’t complain though, I enjoyed every moment of it!
