Get up early. Carry on your shoulders the concern
about the seed yesterday sown.
Everyday there is something unfinished to be done:
a cut conversation, an unfinished poem.
Everyday there is something that has yet
to be born or conceived.
Go along the hard road of water and bread—
there is no other salvation.
Scary is this white sheet of paper awaiting me – a blind man
in a hospital… Which damned nerve should I cut…
A smiling Christ goes out of a reseda colored trailer
and makes for the nearby construction site.
Yesterday they laid the concrete bedding;
today the walls will go up almost biblically…
Good morning! There are bricks, the mortar is ready.
May your work proceed easily.
May the sun that glides over your bare backs
in the early hour shine cloudless.
I too begin my construction – just like you, guys –
only from the top downwards…
