This fascinating minishow “The 1000 Hands Show” is performed by Chinese dancers and made its debut at the Paralympic closing ceremonies in 2004. The incredibly sycronized performance features 21 deaf-mute dancers that are guided by a trainer in each of the four corners of the stage.
The lead dancer is Tai Lihua, a 29 year-old woman who is a graduate from the Hubei Fine Arts Institute in Hong Kong.
The Chinese troupe have performed at over 40 countries around the world and their immaculate display always contains the “1000 Hands” as part of their repertoire. The dancers gracious bodies and hands like rays almost stop time and the only thing that remains is the sun at the center of the stage.
Starting in April, Public Republic will publish video clips in our new Multimedia Box category. The idea behind this new multimedia space is introducing visual information among the impacting texts. Some of the areas of visual coverage will be history, architecture, science, music, visual arts and cinema.
