Andre Demers is a 36 years old painter from Montreal, whose paintings are associated with Pop Art and Optical art, but he is inspired by constructivism and surrealism. He has given his work the name of Pop-Op art.
Andre Demers has been painting for more than 14 years now. He has completed his studies in Interior design, followed by a degree in Fine Arts. He creates colorful, lively and vibrant paintings through which his inner self is expressed.

*I use only acrylic paint, no collage, no photoshop.

*I consider myself a Pop-Op artist; I am equally influenced by Pop Art and Optical Art.

*My favorite artists are Victor Vasarely, Alfred Pellan, Jean Dallaire and M.C. Eisher.

*I create optical effects by using a maximum of contrast either with colors, geometric shapes, textures or patterns. My work is mathematical. My mind works like a computer.

*I started painting seriously at the age of 22. My work is now part of many private collections in Canada, U.S and Europe.

*I love painting like I love breathing. It’s the most important thing in my life, I am obsessive and compulsive.

*I obviously love bright and fluorescent colors. Animals are very present in my art. I like the metaphoric meaning each animal represents.

*My next show is in March 2009 at Galerie Zéphyr in Montreal, Canada, March 03 to March 21. Opening Night is March 05.
