Eyelids peel apart
The body turns over
Consciousness limps
toward focus

To leave the world of vision
and return to the world of sight
always takes a few breaths

The mind tightens
around its gears
The cells resonate

The children of madmen and philosophers
return to their table to debate
the nature of nature’s puzzles

The clang of the city
rises above the
escaping dreams

and somewhere above
owls and horses
or maybe dark panthers
wander away
