Mariana Velichkova’s interview with the photographer Costas Kaounas
Why did you choose photography as a media to express yourself?
I started taking pictures back in 1990 with a Russian Zenit 12xp camera and kept shooting analog since three years ago when I bought my first dslr, but I didn’t quit analog photography.

What do inspire you the most for taking photos?
As a child I liked drawing and painting. As an adult I think that photography is direct sequence to it.

What do you think about art as a part of modern man’s life?
Generally I like art such as painting and theatre, but I can’t say that it’s a necessary part of modern men’s life. I only know what I like…

Cows
What are you getting from photography?
Photography is just a hobby for me and I’m getting a lot “click” pleasure in it, but I admit that I must be in some mood to take pictures. That’s why there are periods when I don’t take any shots.

Do you have favorite subjects to take photos of and why?
I like natural as well as urban landscapes and I try to comprehend the human presence in my shots, but usually I don’t like snapshots. Sometimes I play with textures, just to enhance some atmosphere in my shots, using digital processing.
