Multimedia magazine “Public Republic,” with the support of the German-Bulgarian Association in Hamburg, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin, the Association for the Bulgarian-German Economic and Cultural Links present a photography contest entitled “The Smile of The Summer”.

Work will be evaluated by an international jury composed of:

Ivan Golev (Editor-in-Chief, GEO magazine (Bulgaria), Alan Rosin (Television and commercial producer/Director Chicago, United States), Maxim Behar (Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Public Relations Agencies and Chief Executive of M3 Communications Group, Inc), Ludmila Filipova (writer), Hristo Shopov (actor) , Paul Biddle (fine arts photographer, Great Britain), Assen Blatechky (actor) Kornelia Weinert (Photographer and Editor, Public Republic, Germany), Julian Angelov (Photographer and founder of Photo Products Must See Bulgaria), Vessy Borisova (Film producer, photographer, owner of Buzz Films) and Art McLeod (photographer, Canada).

The First Place winner will receive a Canon EOS 450-D camera, provided by the company PixelPlus.

Photographs by the competition winner will be published on the Public Republic print edition.

The Second Place winner will receive a an original sculpture by Alexander Proynov (APER), provided by Activ Ltd., and a certificate.

The Third Place winner will receive a certificate.

Photographs by the competition winners (I, II and III place) will receive certificates and will be displayed at the next art meeting of the magazine.

All photos submitted to “The Smile of The Summer” contest will be added to the svejo.net web site. Visitors to the site will be able to vote on their favorite work. Votes will be tallied, and the participant receiving the highest number of votes will receive The Audience Award prize. This prize, provided by Helios Spa & Resort Hotel (Golden Sands Resort, Bulgaria), includes a three-night Bed and Breakfast stay for two in a double room, and one complimentary spa-procedure per person.

Rules:

The competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers.

The contest will run from August 23 through September 15, 2009.

Requirements:

1. Participants must register on the website “Public Republic”.

2. Pictures for the contest must not have been released before, either in print or on the internet (including personal blogs, photo forums and sites for photos; or on platforms such as Facebook, MySpace, Netlog, Hi5, etc.)

3. Pictures are to be submitted by emailing to: photo@public-republic.com

Entries must include:

A. In the field “On/ Subject” enter: “For the Contest” along with your full name.

B. Three photographs for participation as three separate files.

Dimensions of the pictures:

If the picture is in a horizontal format, 800 px in length.

If the picture is in a vertical format, 700 px in height.

Files are to be submitted in .jpg format only.

C. In the text of the email include the following:

Name
Username
Phone number or numbers
E-mail
Home or Business address
Day, Month and Year of birth:

Titles of each of the photographs.

D. In a fourth file, include a brief Curriculum Vitae. A single line description of yourself will not be considered a valid Curriculum Vitae. CV’s must be submitted as a word.doc. Other formats will not be accepted.

E. In a fifth file, submit a portrait style photograph of yourself only, in jpg format.

4. The photo contest “The Smile of the Summer” of the multimedia magazine Public Republic is a competition for principal photographers only. You can participate in it only with photos you yourself have taken.
Sending photographs that don’t belong to you for the contest is unacceptable. Participants hold legal responsibility for any copyright infringement or other legal actions that may occur as a result of entering photographs that are not the sole work of and owned by anyone entering the contest.
Your involvement in the contest shall be considered an agreement to these conditions.

5. Each of the participants in the contest will receive an electronic mail response within 48 hours that the pictures and necessary data have arrived successfully to the given address.
If you fail to send a necessary part of the required materials or information, we will attempt to send you an email request letting you know what is missing.

6. If the applicant wishes to participate in the Audience Award contest, he must indicate his intent to Public-Republic and his work will be sent to svejo.net for participation.

Entries will be published in the order in which they are received by Public-Republic.

Viewers can vote for their favorite Audience Award photographers on svejo.net between August 23 and September 25, 2009.

Contest winners will be published on September 28 in the Bulgarian, German- and English editions of Public Republic.
