The Unbearable Lightness

A Photo Essay by Nikolay Nikolov

A photo essay provoked by the coldness, alienation, hypocrisy and the absurd monotonous rush of city life.

I have been walking around the streets of Sofia (and not only) for several weeks to collect these ten images.

Nikolay Nikolov

My name is Nikolay, I was born about 22 years ago, and for nearly five years I have been thinking in pictures. The most serious and keen interest I have is for the reportage method of photo-taking, and in particular, for reportage photography and photo journalism.

I believe that this is where the truly valuable imagery is born and where the real power of the photographic medium can be deployed most fully. Usually I don’t resort to staged images unless my project specifically requires it.

In the past 2 years, I have worked as a photographer for several online publications. My images have participated in exhibitions of Photo Forum and BG Pressphoto 2011.

I have studied Visual Arts at the New Bulgarian University and taken a photography course at the Faculty of Journalism at Sofia University. I am currently a freelance photographer. I am a member of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists “Podkrepa”.
