Mariana Velichkova’s interview with the photographer Norman Atkinson

When and how did you discover photography for yourself?

I discovered photography when we were on our honeymoon in Spain. All the other people we were with were taking photos of the beaches, swimming pool shots and the landscapes of Spain. When I got home I went out and got a OM1 SLR and never looked back.

In what direction do you experiment?

I love to do double exposures using HDR and tone mapping them.

What is the most interesting challenge you have been facing?

The most interesting challenge for me is making AV’s using proshow producer.

What is your concept about visual arts?

There are no universally-accepted definitions of the related terms “art photography,” “artistic photography,” and “fine art photography”, but I love taking images of blue bell woods.

In your opinion what is the essence of photography?

Choosing subjects that matter to me. If I feel that something is beautiful in some way, I use photography to express it.

What is your dream as a photographer?

My dream is to take photos of the space shuttle taking off.
